Not Every Child Gets So Lucky
Child Poverty Awareness Poster Conceptual Designs.
Today, it is evident that New Zealand's poverty is directly linked to child neglect and abuse.
Through three conceptual poster designs, I aimed to raise awareness and encourage donations to sponsor children by utilizing design strategies that evoke deep emotional responses—primarily empathy, sadness, and guilt—to inspire action.
The visuals represent neglect, lack of basic necessities, and the emotional abuse and stress that children in poverty often endure.
A common issue is that people tend to ignore or forget difficult subjects, but with these intense visuals, it becomes hard to forget. By depicting children in vulnerable, helpless situations—whether through the comforting teddy bear or the overwhelming presence of abuse—viewers are confronted with the harsh realities of neglect and abuse, making it hard to ignore the issue.
The intense mood, stark visuals, and unsettling colors draw the audience into the emotional world of the child, fostering a sense of urgency and personal responsibility.
This emotional engagement is essential for motivating action, while the call to reflect on one’s own privilege encourages the audience to question their assumptions and, ultimately, take action.
